I've always had a strange relationship with my hips. First I thought I had no hips and was pleasantly surprised when told for the first time at age 21 that I had nice hips. Then I loved my narrow hips. Then I thought they were not proportional to the rest of my body. Sound familiar? Of course, this is not a life-threatening issue, but it does come up when I look for skirts. I tend to pick my skirts based on visual appeal alone. If it looks great visually on the rack and it fits, I am usually sold.
Recently though, a few people I have shopped with have pointed out shapes that I typically would bypass without a second glance. Not one to miss an opportunity to try something new, I tried a few new styles - and I was not sold. Why? Because I am so
used to buying the same skirt over and over albeit different colors and patterns. But recently, I have found that material really matters in a skirt.
I've learned that narrow hips like mine (narrow across with an existent derriere) are flattered by a skirt made with thick, stretchy fabric. I've also discovered that asymetrical skirts are flattering. Any I've realized that since I'm also tall, I should be wary of pencil skirts (which I heart!). After all, the goal of the skirt is to accentuate our curves, not diminish it!
I'd love to hear any tips from any similarly shaped women out there.
(you can find the cute skirt designed by Deirdre Brett at Unsung Designers in the Adams Morgan neighborhood in Washington, D.C.)
I have narrow hips too but if you have a curve to your stomach and wide shoulders like me you can pull a descent skirt. Just wear an extremely stomach flattering top and a light skirt with a slight flare and dark leggings to thickin small legs. I hope that helps.

I SOMETIMES FEEL THE SAME WAY ,I AM ALWAYS COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT HAVING ENOUGH HIPS,IT SEEMS AS IF I AM JUST STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN.I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE MORE CURVY LOOK,SO IN SKIRTS YOU COULD SEE MORE OF A CURVE.THIS IS WHY I TEND TO SHY AWAY FORM SKIRTS OR DRESSES,AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ITS HARD TO FIT RIGHT WITH OUT THAT CURVE IT SEEMS.
